Recommended Local Small Businesses

We believe in promoting and recommending fellow small business owner friends and their businesses in order to help our clients find well-run, local businesses to support. All of these businesses have been featured in our newsletter, are run by people Gina knows personally and are located in the Portland, Beaverton or Gresham area.

BusinessWorks, Inc

BusinessWorks, Inc. owner, Elizabeth Kluvers, received her accounting degree from Portland State University in 1977. She went on to work for Jarrard, Seibert Pollard CPA’s and Mack Roberts Walsh CPA’s where she worked on 100’s of businesses and audited for two years.

In December 1981 she became a home based business pioneer. With nothing more than ledger paper, an electric typewriter, liquid paper and a ten key, she became an accounting to hundreds of small businesses. BusinessWorks, Inc is going strong after 30+ years, and includes business clients in every industry. Current clients include, but are not limited to:

Advertising agencies, breweries, distilleries, restaurants, doctors, lawyers, dentists, contractors, rental property, wholesale, retail, manufacturing, day care centers, wholesale food production, nonprofits and (of course) a house cleaning business.

In 1993, Quickbooks 2.0 was released into the marketplace and Elizabeth snapped up her first non DOS accounting software. She is an Quickbooks Pro Advisor and an expert at the program. She acts as a Controller for many of her clients, doing everything up to tax preparation. Payroll preparation and tax reporting is one of her areas of expertise. She prepares payroll for 45 companies.

Elizabeth was the Treasurer for The Montavilla Farmers Market for six years and is the current Board President for METBA (Montavilla East Tabor Business Association). She is also on the board for Taking Care – a nonprofit organization exploring alternative cancer support such as nutrition and massage.

In recent months, BusinessWorks, Inc has hired recent Portland State University accounting graduate Christian Sledd as their first employee! BusinessWorks is now ready and excited to add more businesses as clients.
